Transgender Day of Visibility

Friday, March 31st is Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that remains for trans justice around the world. We celebrate and support our transgender community.

What does transgender mean?

Transgender is a term used to describe people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. There are 1.6 million people ages 13+ that identify as transgender in the United States.

Anti-Trans Legislation in the U.S.

While generations of passionate anti-oppression activists have brought trans justice to the forefront of national conversations, there is still much work to be done to ensure transgender people experience peace, justice, freedom and dignity. Across the U.S. there are 429 anti-LGBTQ+ bills aiming to take away human rights. In Oregon alone there are currently 7 bills threatening to take away rights from our transgender neighbors, including limiting access to healthcare and participation in school sports. Find your state legislator here and contact them to let them know you oppose any efforts to limit the rights of transgender Americans. Check out this map of LGBTQ-related laws and policies across the U.S. and see how other states compare.

Beyond Binaries and Bathrooms

Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, 10am-12pm PST

Course Description: Supporting transgender kids is larger than pronouns, bathrooms and gender markers on IDs. It is important to understand that transgender people are first and foremost just that, people. In this interactive workshop, we will discuss the intersecting experiences and barriers that transgender people face in a political climate which punishes people for being transgender. By the end, participants will have a deeper understanding of patriarchy, the gender binary and the compounding challenges of marginalized transgender people.

Understanding Gender

Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, 10am-12pm PST

Online via Zoom

Course Description: You have probably been taught that gender is determined by ones sex. However, this is not the case, and I am here to explain why! As more and more nonbinary, transgender and gender-nonconforming people starting to feel safer to live in their truths, it is important that others have a base level of understanding the difference between gender and sexuality. Join me as we dismantle the binary and learn about the beautiful mosaic of gender identities. In this interactive workshop, we will break down terms, participate in activities and engage in interactive learning focusing on gender and sexuality.
