Culture of Gendered Violence offers an exploration of the historical and cultural causes of violence against women.  We will examine how it is a logical, though completely intolerable, extension of a firmly entrenched misogynist worldview, imposed upon women, children and men over thousands of years. We will explore how this violence is used to help to maintain patriarchy, male dominance and oppressive stereotypes.

Workshop Objectives:

Learn about the historical and cultural root causes of violence against women

– Explore gender roles, sexism, patriarchy and misogyny
– Define and discuss the three components of Gender Violence

  • Sexism
  • Sexual Objectification
  • Victim Blaming

– Examine myths and cultural norms that justify violence and help maintain the status quo.
– Discuss current changes that are reducing violence against women.

This workshop fulfills a requirement for 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training
